Our journey has been filled with milestones—millions of bottles sold, enduring myths and legends (yes, we’ve heard them all!), and wines that continue to stand the test of time. At Charles Shaw, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a core value that guides everything we do. We are deeply committed to protecting the land and the environment while producing exceptional wines.

• Sustainable Viticulture: Our vineyards employ sustainable farming practices. These practices prioritize soil health by using cover crops that add nutrients, provide erosion control, and attract beneficial insects as well as composting our vineyards for improved water holding capacity. We also focus on biodiversity utilizing natural solutions to protect trees for owls, falcons and other predators that help reduce the presence of rodents. Vineyard water management is also critical for sustainability. Water conservation in our vineyards is employed by implementing and calculating weekly ETO (evapotranspiration) data allowing our team to reduce water usage by up to 25%.
• Carbon Footprint Reduction: Our ongoing efforts to decrease our carbon footprint include optimizing transportation logistics and using renewable energy sources wherever possible. This includes our shipping partner, who helps us get our wine from our cellars into stores near you. They boast being 100% CARB compliant plus 87% of their fleet uses renewable fuel.
• Eco-Friendly Practices: From energy-efficient production processes to the use of lightweight, recyclable packaging, we are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint. We’re proud to be True Zero Waste certified, meaning that our winery must divert 90% or more of our solid waste stream from landfill. To achieve this, we collect and recycle from our offices, cellars, warehouses, bottling lines and grape crushing facilities.
